Handguns and Reels, the makers of the popular USB drive, are working on a USB player that will play Blu-ray discs.
Called the USB Drive, the player will be available for $19.99 at a launch party for developers.
The company says the player supports 4K and 1080p Blu-rays, and has built-up a network of more than 4 million players around the world.
That includes a dozen in the US.
Handguns’ cofounder and chief executive Matt Miller told Ars the company wants to expand its reach into the video game industry.
“We’ve always been about making sure that our products are designed with gamers in mind,” he said.
Miller is a big believer in “plug and play” devices, which mean you don’t need to physically connect anything to your PC to get video games and other media. “
If you can play video gaming on your own and then go and get a new phone or a new console and go out and buy a new device to do it, that’s the way we’re going to continue to grow.”

“I’ve been playing around with plug and play for a long time,” Miller said.
In fact, he’s even started a crowdfunding campaign to create a USB Drive with a 4K Blu-Ray player.
“Our primary goal is to bring something like this to the market and we don’t have the funding, so we’re just going to do our best to make sure we do it.”
The company also wants to bring its products to other gaming platforms, including PS4 and Xbox One.
